CAF Boss urges Nyantakyi to Seek Re-Election as GFA President
President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Dr. Ahmad Ahmad has entreated Kwesi Nyantakyi to seek re-election as Ghana Football Association president in 2019.
Nyantakyi has reiterated on several occasions that he would vacate the Ghana FA hot seat when his tenure in office expires in 2019 – having occupied the position since 2005.
Several leading members of the Ghana FA have urged him to have a change of mind and contest again – a thought which has not gone down too well with some section of people in the football fraternity.
But during an interview, Ahmad posited that all its stakeholders still need him therefore he has a moral obligation to serve his country for as long as the people support him.
“If the government, if people ask him to continue, then why must he stop? The people need him, the stakeholders need him so why must he not contest again,” Ahmad said.
“We are here to serve our Nation and service to your country comes first and so I will advise him to seek re-election.”
Nyantakyi doubles as the Vice-president of Africa’s governing body CAF and also occupies a position on the FIFA Council which makes him one of the most powerful men in football in the world.
